Date:
June 23, 2023

Showtime:
7 PM

The MidCoast Film Fest is pleased to present our opening night documentary feature film, a majestic and eye opening look at small town New England – STRAFFORD

Join us following the screening for a talkback with filmmakers Katy E Cecchetti and Kevin P Corcoran (Portland, ME)

Directed by
Katy E Cecchetti, Kevin P Corcoran

Tucked away in the forests of Southern New Hampshire stands the town of Strafford, a 200-year old town with around 4,000 residents. No major roadways go directly through Strafford, but it has lakes and mountains, schools and meeting halls, and traditions and memories that span back centuries. This film invites viewers to visit this special place and spend time with some of its people as they look back on the history of their town and turn an eye toward its uncertain future. Welcome to Strafford.

Running Time: 1 hour, 33 minutes

Director Biography – Katy E Cecchetti, Kevin P Corcoran
Katy and Kevin grew up about a 15 minute drive from one another in Strafford, NH, but in a twist of fate they wouldn’t cross paths until decades later, when they were both working in video production in New York City. One thing led to another and before too long they teamed up to produce their own films, starting with a project about their hometown. Kevin and Katy now live and work in Portland, Maine, running a creative agency and production studio called Mild Manor Media.

Director Statement
This project is an incredibly special project for us for so many reasons. It is our first feature-length documentary project and it was truly a mom and pop project, with almost all aspects of production and post-production executed by just the two of us. We acted as co-directors, co-producers, co-editors and co-crazy-people. But more than the work that we put into it, this project was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with the town and people that we had grown up with but been away from for most of our adult lives.
In trying to capture a bit of the town’s magic we turned to the folks who were experts on Strafford; experts on its civic history, its ecological history, its spiritual history and more. Each interview was a chance for us to learn and we hope this film does their expertise justice. We were lucky enough to shoot most of this film in the years just before Covid-19, and as such the film represents a snapshot of that particular moment in the life of the town and we hope to have preserved a tiny piece of it here for future generations.
