The Only Woman in the Room tells the story of the remarkable Frances Perkins, the first female to hold the position of Secretary of Labor and a Cabinet position.
Beginning as a shy, quiet girl from Newcastle, Maine, Frances became a fighter and advocate for workers’ rights when she saw first-hand the injustices and negligent working conditions in US factories in the 1920s and 30s. Her dedication to supporting the poor and middle classes, developing a social safety net, and ensuring safe working conditions changed the course of American history regardless of her being the Only Woman in the Room.
