Brazilian-American composer Clarice Assad’s eclectic style finds inspiration in jazz. Drawing a parallel to French Impressionists who were likewise inspired, this program pairs Assad’s Aquamarine—a work with a vibrant color palette, written for Anne-Marie McDermott—with Ravel’s masterful Violin Sonata and Fauré’s evocative Piano Quartet No. 2.

Single Concert Ticket $45 General Admission / $30 First-time attendee / Students free. Includes admission to concert and pre-concert lecture.
Season Subscription $165. Includes admission to four evening concerts and pre-concert lectures.

Program:
Maurice Ravel: Violin Sonata No. 2, M. 77

Gabriel Fauré: Piano Quartet No. 2 in G minor, Op. 45

Celebrating our 30th anniversary, the 2024 Salt Bay Chamberfest theme, Music in Blue, intermingles historical and contemporary works that exemplify the influence of blues and jazz on classical chamber music with music inspired by blue landscapes in nature and the visual arts. We look forward to welcoming incredible artists to Damariscotta and are excited to present an SBC-commissioned world premiere work by pianist/composer Conrad Tao inspired by the 100th anniversary of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Against a backdrop of vibrant natural reflections of color—deep blue seas, sapphire rivers, and indigo skies—the coast of Maine is an ideal setting for audiences to engage in a musical exploration of all things Blue, and to ring in our 30th anniversary.
